Because Crowley is evil. OK. Not EVIL evil but still the emissary of hell (evil never sleeps but he kinda likes to). He is responsible for such great evils as traffic jams and not getting decent cellphone reception.

Yeah, he is the demon of simple everyday evils... he doesn't even do big evil "good", he slept through the times of the inquisition because even he has standards and didn't want to do anything with it.

(And I don't make this up, all of this is in his story "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.)
